World Book of Records (India & United Kingdom) Notice Against Misuse of Name, Trademark, Copyright and Passing Off Practices
New Delhi/ London
World Book of Records (India & United Kingdom) has issued a Notice against certain individuals, organizations, and entities operating in India and abroad for illegally, fraudulently, and misleadingly using or imitating its official name, emblem, logo, registered trademark, certificate design, printing style, computer fonts, and event formats.
Announcing this, Adv. Santosh Shukla, CEO of World Book of Records, stated that the organization has taken stringent legal and penal action to safeguard its global intellectual property and prevent the continued misuse of its reputation and goodwill.
“It has been observed that several unauthorized entities are attempting to replicate the identity and activities of the World Book of Records by using deceptively similar names such as World Records London, British, Excellence, Oxford, Cambridge, UK, USA, UN, Harvard, England, Britain, International, Global, and others.
These entities are following the same modus operandi — creating a false public impression and unlawfully presenting themselves as affiliated with World Book of Records. Such actions clearly amount to passing off and infringement under intellectual property laws,” said Mr. Shukla.
The World Book of Records (India & UK) clarified that such acts are fraudulent, deceptive, and constitute serious offences under the following legal provisions:
• Trade Marks Act, 1999 (India) — Sections 102–105 (Falsification, False Application, and Passing Off)
• Copyright Act, 1957 (India) — Sections 51–63 (Infringement and Penalties)
• Trade Marks Act, 1994 (United Kingdom) — Sections 10–14 (Infringement and Passing Off)
• Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, 1988 (United Kingdom) — Relevant provisions governing copyright misuse
In addition, these entities have also been found misusing registered corporate, publication, and tax identities, including those protected under ROC (Registrar of Companies), RNI (Registrar of Newspapers for India), CGST, GST and VAT registrations associated with World Book of Records (India & UK).
In view of these repeated violations and deliberate acts of deception, World Book of Records (India & UK) has initiated comprehensive civil and criminal proceedings against the concerned persons, institutions, and promoters for trademark infringement, copyright violation, passing off, fraud, and criminal misrepresentation under applicable Indian and UK laws.
The organization has urged the general public and institutions not to engage with or recognize any such unauthorized entities, awards, or events falsely claiming affiliation with World Book of Records.
All communications, recognitions, or certifications must be verified exclusively through the official channels of World Book of Records (India & United Kingdom).
