Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The historic city of Ujjain witnessed a spectacular Deepotsav on 17 September 2026, as 33,27,125 earthen lamps were illuminated simultaneously along the banks of the Kshipra River and at Mahakal Lok, creating a reported world record under the ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ programme.
The ceremony was organised as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday. At 7 PM, a siren signalled the simultaneous lighting of the lamps. More than 25,000 volunteers, devotees and citizens participated, with the illumination completed in approximately three minutes.
The Deepotsav covered Ram Ghat, Datt Akhara Ghat, Kedareshwar Ghat, Sunhari Ghat, Bhukhi Mata Ghat and Mahakal Mahalok. The programme was attended by Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; Nitin Nabin, National President, BJP; Hemant Khandelwal, State President, BJP Madhya Pradesh; and Mahendra Singh, Madhya Pradesh BJP In-charge.
They participated in the Kshipra Aarti and jointly lit the ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ at Ram Ghat. The Ujjain celebration formed part of a much larger statewide initiative in which 3.55 crore diyas were lit across 845 iconic locations in Madhya Pradesh.
