Sheikh Anis Musa Leads Humanitarian Initiative to Support Widows in Kashmir
- Orphans In Need brings essential household assistance to vulnerable women in Srinagar, highlighting dignity, compassion and long-term community welfare
Srinagar: In a significant humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable families, Orphans In Need organised a distribution programme providing kitchen utensils and essential household items to widowed women in Srinagar. The initiative sought to ease everyday challenges faced by economically disadvantaged households while reaffirming the importance of dignity, compassion and social responsibility.

At the heart of the initiative was Sheikh Anis Musa, Founder and Chair of Orphans In Need, whose sustained efforts have helped develop the organisation’s welfare activities for widows, orphaned children and families in need. His work reflects a commitment to taking humanitarian assistance beyond temporary relief by supporting education, basic necessities and the long-term well-being of vulnerable communities.

The organisation distributed kitchen and other essential household items among approximately 2000 widowed women at Haj House in Srinagar. The report also highlighted the organisation’s educational support programme, under which children from underprivileged families receive monthly scholarships of ₹1,900. The organisation says its wider welfare programmes reach thousands of beneficiaries.

The programme was attended by Dr. Indresh Kumar, senior leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS); Anshul Garg, IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Santosh Shukla, CEO of World Book of Records; MLA Surendra Kumar; senior BJP leader Ranjit Sharma; Ravi Yadav, Editor ABP News and Tufail Majeed, along with other representatives and community members. Their presence brought attention to the role of cooperation between charitable organisations, public representatives and civil society in addressing the needs of vulnerable sections of society.

Founded in 2005, Orphans In Need Charitable Public Trust focuses on supporting orphaned children and widowed women through food assistance, educational support, essential supplies and other welfare initiatives. Its work in Jammu and Kashmir has included winter relief distributions, food parcels and direct assistance to families facing hardship.

The Srinagar initiative highlighted a message that extends beyond the distribution of household goods: humanitarian service is also about recognizing the struggles of vulnerable families and helping women maintain dignity and independence. Through the leadership of Sheikh Anis Musa and the continued involvement of volunteers and supporters, Orphans In Need seeks to strengthen community support for those who need it most.
