GP Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Group, Passes Away at 85 in London
London, UK — Gopichand Parmanand Hinduja, universally known as GP Hinduja, passed away in London at the age of 85, marking the end of an era for one of Britain’s and India’s most influential business dynasties.
As Chairman of the Hinduja Group, GP Hinduja steered one of the world’s most diversified multinational conglomerates with operations in banking and finance, automotive manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and information technology. Under his visionary leadership, the Group expanded across 38 countries, with its global headquarters in London, and played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s industrial and economic footprint worldwide.
GP Hinduja, along with his late elder brother Srichand Parmanand Hinduja (SP Hinduja), was instrumental in shaping the modern legacy of the Hinduja empire. Their business philosophy was deeply influenced by their father’s founding motto — “Work to Give” — which underscored a lifelong commitment to philanthropy, ethical entrepreneurship, and social responsibility.
Beyond the boardroom, GP Hinduja was celebrated for his philanthropic contributions, particularly in education and healthcare. His notable initiatives include the P.D. Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Mumbai, which has become one of India’s leading healthcare institutions.
His passing marks the loss of not only a visionary industrialist but also a humanitarian whose influence extended far beyond the business world. The leadership mantle now transitions to the next generation of the Hinduja family, who continue to uphold the group’s values and legacy across global enterprises.
