Master Lakshay Krishnakumar, a 12-year-old boy with special needs, has set a remarkable world record by swimming 56 kilometers across the open sea between Thalaimannar (Sri Lanka) and Rameswaram Agni Theertham (India). On October 8-9, 2024, undertook the daring 20-hour swim, earning him a prestigious place in the World Book of Records. Diagnosed with autism, he has shown immense courage and perseverance, proving that disabilities do not define one’s limits. His journey was supported by a 15-member crew, including a swimming instructor, scuba diver, and rescue trainer, who ensured his safety throughout the expedition. This incredible achievement is a testament to his spirit, inspiring people worldwide to swim against the tide, one lap at a time. Looking ahead, Lakshay’s parents wholeheartedly believe that in every child, especially those on the autism spectrum, lie talents waiting to be tapped.
