Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s Seed Ball Campaign Enters World Book of Records UK, Youngest Mayor Honoured as Chief Minister Presents Certificate
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala : In a landmark environmental initiative, the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation has secured a coveted place in the World Book of Records UK by hosting a massive seed ball–making campaign at Putharikandam Maidan.
The ceremony, part of the Green Budget 2025 initiative, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 7,000 students, surpassing the original target of 6,000. The campaign aimed to promote large-scale afforestation and ecological awareness among the younger generation.

The program was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who hailed it as a model project for civic bodies across the nation. “This campaign demonstrates how collective effort can bring about meaningful environmental change,” he remarked.
The record achievement was officially verified by Rinish T.P., the Indian representative of World Book of Records. The provisional certificate was presented by the Chief Minister to Mayor Arya Rajendran, who is celebrated as the youngest mayor in India.

Mayor Arya Rajendran expressed her gratitude, stating, “This is not just a record; it’s a commitment to a greener future for Thiruvananthapuram and beyond.”
The initiative is expected to inspire similar large-scale environmental programs in other municipalities, further advancing Kerala’s leadership in sustainable development.
