Indore police sets world record with anti-drug campaign

  • 7,100 people form 6-km long human chain from Bhanwarkuan to Palasia spreading message against drug abuse

Indore/Madhya Pradesh/India: In a landmark achievement under the “Say No to Drugs”(Nashe Se Duri, Hai Zaruri) campaign, the Indore Police has set a world record by forming a 7,100-person human chain to raise awareness against drug abuse. The event was recognized by the World Book of Records, London, and marks a significant step in the city’s fight against narcotics.

The human chain stretched over 6 kilometres from Bhanwarkuan to Palasia Square, covering major junctions such as Navlakha, GPO, and Geeta Bhawan. It featured participation from school and college students, coaching institute faculty, traffic wardens, members of the Nagar Suraksha Samiti, and local residents including women, children, and the elderly.

Coordinated public awareness drive

The event was organized under the guidance of police commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, with the initiative launched by additional commissioner Amit Singh and DCP Zone-4 Rishikesh Meena. The campaign aimed to sensitize the public about the ill effects of substance abuse and to encourage a drug-free lifestyle.

Participants held placards, pamphlets, and banners conveying anti-drug messages, making the entire route a visible display of solidarity against narcotics. The event culminated at Palasia Square in the presence of additional commissioner Manoj Kumar Shrivastava and other senior officers.

Recognized by World Book of Records

The World Book of Records (London) team, represented by Apoorva Menon and Bharat Sharma, presented a provisional certificate to Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, acknowledging the record-breaking human chain.

The feat has now placed Indore on the global map for community-led anti-drug initiatives, reinforcing the city’s commitment to youth protection and public health.

Community congratulated and felicitated

Commissioner Singh congratulated all students, citizens, police officers, and volunteers who took part in the event. Each participant received a certificate of appreciation from the Indore Police Commissionerate for their role in creating this historic awareness effort.
