Hyderabad, Telangana, India: The Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute has earned recognition for organizing a large-scale cancer awareness initiative that set a world record. The event was conducted on February 4, 2026, in observance of World Cancer Day, at the premises of Sree TKR Educational Society.

More than 10,000 students participated in forming a massive human chain designed in the shape of a cancer awareness ribbon. The participants also took a collective pledge against tobacco consumption, emphasizing the importance of prevention and early detection in the fight against cancer. The initiative aimed to spread awareness among young people and encourage healthier lifestyle choices.

The achievement was officially recognized by the World Book of Records, which documented the event as a world record for its scale and impact. The certificate was presented by Chartered Officer Dr. U. Eliyazar to Chairman Dr. G. Hariram, Vice Chairman G. Ramesh, Medical College Principal Dr. S. Anjaneyulu, and Academy Director Rajasekhar, along with other officials and faculty members.

Organizers highlighted that the program was not only about achieving a record but also about delivering a strong social message. They stressed that tobacco use is one of the leading causes of cancer and that awareness at an early age can significantly reduce risks. The overwhelming participation of students reflected a growing commitment among youth toward public health causes and community responsibility.
