Manang, Nepal: In a remarkable feat of endurance, sportsmanship, and determination, the Nepal Women’s Wrestling Foundation successfully staged wrestling bouts at Tilicho Lake, the world’s highest-altitude lake, marking a historic moment in global sports history and setting a benchmark for recognition by World Book of Records.

The ceremony took place at an astounding altitude of 4,919 metres above sea level in Nyesyang Rural Municipality, Manang District, making it one of the highest-altitude wrestling events ever organized. The initiative aimed to promote women’s empowerment, adventure sports, and Nepal’s natural heritage on a global platform.

The women’s bout featured renowned Nepali wrestlers Bhagwati Khadka (Unika) and Asmita Sunar (Jureli) competing against American wrestler Camille Collette Ligon-Holided. Displaying exceptional strength and resilience under extreme climatic and oxygen-deprived conditions, Khadka and Jureli emerged victorious, earning widespread acclaim for their historic performance.

The second bout showcased a men’s wrestling match between Nepal’s celebrated wrestler Krishna Magar, popularly known as the “Sindhupalchok Tiger,” and Loku Singh, with Magar securing a decisive victory. Demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship, Magar officiated the women’s match, while Khadka took on officiating responsibilities during the men’s bout. The prestigious event was graced by Kanchha Ghale, Chairperson of Nyesyang Rural Municipality, as the Chief Guest, along with Nawaraj Paudel, Chief District Officer of Manang, and other dignitaries and local representatives.

This extraordinary wrestling at Tilicho Lake stands as a testament to human endurance and athletic excellence at extreme altitudes and is a significant milestone in the history of international wrestling. The achievement is being recognized as a record-worthy accomplishment by World Book of Records, celebrating Nepal’s contribution to global sports heritage.
