Teatro Romano de Mérida (Roman Theatre) of Mérida, Badajoz, Spain will be listed in World Heritage Site of World Book of Records

Spain : World Book of Records has announced Teatro Romano de Mérida (Roman Theatre) of Mérida, Badajoz, Spain will be included in the World Heritage Site of World Book of Records for one of the largest and most extensive archaeological sites in Spain with unique and traditional culture with historical significance.

The certificate will be presented to Mr. Jesús F. Cimarro, Director by officials of the World Book of Records. Significantly, the theatre is one of the most famous and visited landmarks in Spain, it is regarded as a Spanish cultural icon and was chosen as one of the 12 Treasures of Spain. The semi circular shape of the grandstands cavea is incorporated into the gradient of San Albin Hill.

In its time it had a seating capacity of 6,000. The diameter is about 86 meters (282 feet). The stands are divided into three areas: the innermost ima cavea, (22 rows) media cavea (5 rows) and summa cavea, the latter being severely deteriorated today.

On being recognized by the World Book of Records, Mr. Jesús F. Cimarro, Director was congratulated by the Central Working Committee of the World Book of Records and other dignitaries from international scenario.
